WebMD conducted an interview with President Obama about the progress that the Affordable Care Act is making on enrollment, and whether enough people will have signed up by the March 31st deadline.
The president doesn't sound too concerned. In fact, he's pretty reassuring:
President Obama:
“The pool is already large enough, the number of people who have signed up is large enough; I’m confident the program will be stable."
Had the first month and a half of the Affordable Act roll out not been such a mess, the goal would have likely been reached by now. But between the GOP sabotaging and obstructing the president's efforts every step of the way, and the website itself preventing so many from being able to enroll, it's pretty remarkable that the numbers are what they are.
My personal preference would have been Medicare for All, but Obamacare is better than what we've had up 'til now. Big Insurance is still way too big, but with any luck, we'll gradually become a single payer country state by state. Vermont has already passed legislation, and Maine, New York, Hawaii, Oregon, California, and Pennsylvania are showing interest.
President Obama said Friday enough people have already signed up for ObamaCare that he is “confident” his signature legislative accomplishment will function properly.
“At this point, enough people are signing up that the Affordable Care Act is going to work,” Obama said in a WebMD interview. “The insurance companies will continue to offer these plans. We already have 4 million people, over 4 million people, signed up."
The president said he expects “a larger number” still to be enrolled by March 31.
He also said, "We know that it's working because we have 4.2 million people who have already signed up. On a daily basis we're getting tens of thousands of people who are signing up."
Gee, what a miserable failure.
